I have a confession. I’ve made this dairy free banana bread MANY times, and it has NEVER lasted more than 2 days. And I’ve made it to gift to loved ones… and I ended up eating it and buying them chocolates instead. This banana bread makes me do bad things, but in all the best ways.
The banana bread batter is made in the blender with an oat base – so it’s basically porridge. Our subtly sweetened banana bread batter is layered with a mixture dairy free cream cheese to make a bread that could either be breakfast or dessert – depending on what time you eat it.
Banana bread is a favourite in my household. When it bakes it brings me RIGHT BACK to my childhood, watching the oven cook my mother’s deliciously sugary chocolate chip banana bread. The older I get, the more I crave bits and pieces of my childhood. Maybe it is the life of an expat, reaching for something from your past, or maybe it’s that virtual, tummy warming hug that you crave from your parents. Either way, this banana bread soothes both my physical and emotional hunger.
Note that this recipe works best with non-dairy cream cheese. I like using nut-based ones (I used nush almond milk cheese). If you try other brands, please let me know!
Try out my dairy free banana bread, and let me know what you think!
