Over the past few years, I’ve been more and more conscious of what I’ve been putting into and on my body. Not only that, but being more mindful of what I’ve been using in our home. Yes, I’ve tried to “green” my beauty routine by switching to all natural shampoos, lotions, and makeup, but I’ve tried to choose cleaning products that contain ingredients I feel comfortable with, and avoid ones that contains ingredients that can be harmful to me and my family.

All natural kitchen cleaner:
- Fill a jar with white vinegar.
- Save your citrus peels (be careful not to get any of the fruit on the peel!), and add it to your vinegar.
- Let the citrus peels soak in the vinegar for 2 weeks.
- Drain the vinegar into a spray bottle, and dilute with equal parts water.
Using vinegar:
- I’m not talking about fancy balsamic vinegar, use white vinegar with 5% acetic acid for cleaning up soap scum and mineral deposits!
- Clean the drain by pouring white vinegar down them. Wait 30 minutes, and run cold water for 30 seconds.
- Add vinegar to your mopping water for clean floors.
- Disinfect your dishwasher by adding vinegar into the detergent reservoir, and run an empty cycle.
Using Baking Soda
My other clean greening hack is using baking soda… a lot.
- Burnt bits stuck to your pans? Boil water and baking soda, simmer, and give it a good stir. Scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon, and voila!
- Use a paste of baking soda and water to scrub off coffee stains in your favourite mugs
